Veterinary Ophthalmology Services works closely with your veterinarian to provide the most up-to-date eye care and surgical treatments for your pet. Our AAHA-accredited specialty referral practice has been seeing small animals, exotics, and wildlife in middle Tennessee and surrounding states for over 20 years.
An ophthalmic exam includes a thorough evaluation of the structure and function of your pet’s eyes and visual system. If problems are identified, options and recommendations can be made which may include medical and/or surgical procedures to help restore your pet’s health and quality of life.
Standard exam room tests include Schirmer tear test, tonometry (intraocular pressure measurement), and fluorescein stain.
For many ophthalmic problems, further evaluation may be needed to determine proper medical or surgical treatments. Some of these procedures may require a few hours stay and/or mild sedation. We will provide written estimates for any recommended procedure before it is performed.
A CAER exam screens for hereditary eye diseases and abnormalities in purebred dogs. Results are utilized by breeders as a guide to produce healthier dogs and by the OFA CAER (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals’ Companion Animal Eye Registry) to track and provide information on trends in eye disease and breed susceptibility.
Surgeries are performed throughout the week by all of our doctors. An estimate for the recommended procedure will be provided at initial examination. All new patients have an initial examination prior to recommending or scheduling any surgical procedures. All of our surgeries are outpatient procedures.
Cataracts, Glaucoma, Vision Loss, Eye or Eyelid Trauma, Eye or Eyelid Tumors, Corneal Ulcers, Chronic “Dry Eye,” and Ocular Inflammation.
